The Health Management Institute of Ireland, in partnership with the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists are delighted to launch their new Irish People Handling training DVD.
All employers and employees who handle people are covered by the Safety Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005. This legislation places responsibilities on both employers and employees. It requires employers to provide employees with a safe place of work, safe equipment to work with and a safe system of work. The Health and Safety legislation requires employees to take reasonable care of their own safety, the safety of coworkers and to comply with any relevant health and safety procedures in their workplace. The manual handling provisions of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations, 2007 state that employers are obliged to make arrangements to avoid hazardous manual handling activities where possible. If not possible, they should carry out a risk assessment and implement control measures to reduce the level of risk down to the lowest level that is reasonably practicable.
